Regional Content is Geo-normous

Every once in a while we like to slip a new feature in under the radar. Several months ago, advertisers purchasing inventory in FeedBurner's Ad Network for blogs and feeds got the ability to geo-target their ads to specific countries, states, and designated market areas (DMAs). While that's an interesting tidbit for you media buyers and marketers out there (and if you knew what DMA meant, chances are that's you), the rest of you Burning Questions readers might be more interested in a related trend we've noticed: the increasingly local nature of content. Last week's post highlighted BizJournals' 100 news feeds in local markets around the US - and they're being joined by an ever-growing list of publishers who focus on their local markets. The result? Feeds make it increasingly easy for audiences to keep tabs on their favorite cities, no matter where they're located.

Take New York. Even though they dismiss our unfoldable, takes-an-hour-to-cook deep-dish pizza, we still enjoy feeding the island of Manhattan. (Speaking of which, looking for a feed about pizza? Check.) Check out the latest sampling of new FeedBurner publishers covering the goings-on in New York City:

• New York Magazine, the official website for New York Magazine. The Grub Street Food and Restaurant blog is particularly tasty.
• The New York City Real Estate Blog covers the real estate market in depth. We hear it's kind of expensive in the Concrete Jungle.
• 23/6, IAC's soon-to-launch site will take a "satirical turn on the day's events" from their headquarters in the City That Never Sleeps.
• The New York Mets Podcast. While our Cubs and White Sox open today, the Mets got the 2007 baseball season off to a good start with a decisive win over the Cardinals; you're sure to hear lots of cheering on this well-subscribed podcast.
