I love the SmartFeed function that FeedBurner provides. When I give out my feed address, I know it'll be accessible from any browser, podcatcher, or news aggregator software. So everyone can tune in to the podcast. Much love for FeedBurner!" - Simon and the team at musiccanteen.com, the music download site for independent musicians 2/22/06

FeedBurner Facts & Stats

April 02, 2007

Regional Content is Geo-normous

Every once in a while we like to slip a new feature in under the radar. Several months ago, advertisers purchasing inventory in FeedBurner's Ad Network for blogs and feeds got the ability to geo-target their ads to specific countries, states, and designated market areas (DMAs). While that's an interesting tidbit for you media buyers and marketers out there (and if you knew what DMA meant, chances are that's you), the rest of you Burning Questions readers might be more interested in a related trend we've noticed: the increasingly local nature of content. Last week's post highlighted BizJournals' 100 news feeds in local markets around the US - and they're being joined by an ever-growing list of publishers who focus on their local markets. The result? Feeds make it increasingly easy for audiences to keep tabs on their favorite cities, no matter where they're located.

Take New York. Even though they dismiss our unfoldable, takes-an-hour-to-cook deep-dish pizza, we still enjoy feeding the island of Manhattan. (Speaking of which, looking for a feed about pizza? Check.) Check out the latest sampling of new FeedBurner publishers covering the goings-on in New York City:

These publishers join a very long list of FeedBurned feeds offering insight about the Big Apple: Gawker, Curbed, Gothamist, Metadish, Metroblogging NYC, NewYorkology, WNYC and countless others.

Are you publishing a FeedBurner feed about the The City So Nice They Named It Twice and we forgot to mention you? Shame on us! Drop a link into the comment section and make it right. (And we promise to use not even one more tired nickname for Gotham. Promise.)
