Bots Behaving Badly
We have seen a few new RSS spiders (3rd party bots as opposed to a subscriber's aggregator) arrive on the scene in the past week or so, and some of them are improperly spidering feed links either masquerading as browsers, not identifying themselves, or very repeatedly fetching links that have already been spidered. This is having the effect of causing apparent spikes in the clickthrough numbers on the detailed stats page for some feeds. If you've noticed strange spikes in your clickthrough numbers over the past week or so, we have identified the misbehaving bots one way or another and your detailed clickthrough stats should be back to normal in the next day or so, as we discount their behavior. If you have a frequently updated feed, and you've experienced slow response times accessing your detailed statistics web page at FeedBurner, that should also be corrected within the next couple days as well.
There are no adverse effects on any feeds themselves as a result of these misbehaved crawlers, and your circulation numbers have not been affected. As always, feel free to post in our support forums if you have any questions.
