I love the SmartFeed function that FeedBurner provides. When I give out my feed address, I know it'll be accessible from any browser, podcatcher, or news aggregator software. So everyone can tune in to the podcast. Much love for FeedBurner!" - Simon and the team at musiccanteen.com, the music download site for independent musicians 2/22/06

Password Protector

Here's another new service that some might find useful: the Password Protector. This service might be especially helpful if you don't have access your server settings.

Purpose
Basic security to keep an unwanted Tom, Dick, or Harry out of your feed. Protect your feed with a required username and password using HTTP authentication.

Feed Effect
Any requests for your burned feed will require readers to enter a username and password to retrieve it. This free service supports only one username and password combination. Your readers will be required to use feed reader software that supports authentication, such as FeedDemon or Shrook.

The free version of this service only allows a single username and password via HTTP authentication -- please contact us if you have more sophisticated subscriber-management needs and we'll be happy to work with you.

Well, I think I worked it out , Im not sure until I restart my machine. Blog explosion deactiavated me because they said my site required password. SO I reoptomized my feed and left the password box unchecked. It still appears the box I seen it a few times. Should I take off the animated box, I like it. or has others have the same issue? Should I redue the optimizing again?
Can you fix this yourself?

Joseph

Joseph,

Please check the FeedBurner Forums for our response. All support-related requests should be handled most efficiently there.

I have the same problem ,cannot get rid of this unwanted log in box, I took off password protect option and it still comes back, and I am fed up with it. I went to the forum, I couldn't see any help there, what is the answer?

I gave up trying to fix this - I updated 3 times and still this log in password protect box came up; so I redid the whole thing.
This programme doesn't allow you to uncheck the protect box, or it simply isn't working correctly.

Hey red_fred -- I'm sorry, I didn't see your comment here until just now. In the future, you'll probably get a quicker response in our support forums.

I'm guessing that what happened was a usability bug on our part: after you deselected the checkbox, did you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Update Feed"? You have to do that in order for the changes to "stick".

We'll try to make that clearer in the future.

Thanks for your comment!
